Day 1

I ‘ve decided to start writing for at least 10 minutes every day. Every day. Afterward, I’ll write a little post about it. This is for accountability more than anything else, but it’ll also help me to track what I did and what decisions I made along the way.

I’m going to try self-publishing whatever it is that I write. Why self-publishing? Well, you basically get no help from a traditional publisher these days when it comes to selling your book except to get it into bookstores and maybe get some reviews from well-known publications. But in general, if you’re not a big name, you’ll be left to do your own marketing anyway. To be honest, I don’t really want to do my own marketing, but if I have to, then I might as well do it my way without having a third party making decisions I may not agree with. Besides, I’d probably never make as much as a traditional author as I do as a software engineer anyway, so this is more of a hobby and possible retirement gig.

Anyway, I looked at my Goodreads ratings before I began this morning to decide what I was going to write. I decided upon an epic fantasy since that seems to be mostly what I like aside from pop-psychology non-fiction. It’s kind of cliche, but I don’t care.

In general, I would consider myself more of a plotter than a pantser, but I decided to start with pantsing this morning just to get started writing and see where things take me. What I came up with is a tale of two star-crossed lovers from warring peoples who start a war, more or less. We’ll see how it goes.
